Kardan Construction ~ Government House Lighting

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Governor Chris Dawson of Western Australia had very particular goals in mind when engaging Wilco to light up the building which is both the Governors home and a reception place for visiting dignitaries. Wanting to ensure that the people of Western Australia could enjoy the beauty of the heritage architecture all year round but also having the ability to select colour schemes that could be themed for special events, while making sure the solution wasn’t obtrusive or impacting on the aesthetic of the property during the day. Wilco worked closely with the Governor, including a number of night tests, to achieve all of these goals, utilising a mixture of in ground and pole mounted lights to deliver a bespoke solution that matched the importance of the building without impacting on its heritage fabric.

SCOPE OF WORK

The brief to Wilco was to accentuate the architectural features, allow easy programming by Government House staff for themed events and avoid impacting the heritage fabric of the building and surrounds without impacting the aesthetic of the gardens.

Working with our lighting partner Light Applications on the design, the final solution used a mixture of RGBW Studio Due inground up-lights to accentuate the architectural features with strategically placed PureLED (TM) spotlights to provide a more even colour wash for a striking effect with coloured themes using existing infrastructure for the mounting. This was combined with PureLED(TM) strip lighting the grand ballroom stairs, tying in all elements of the building from the original through to the later additions. This was all bought back to a central control point with a Pharos controller and a Philips display and control panel with pre-programmed scenes for the Government House staff to use.

ACHIEVEMENTS

This project contributed to Wilco's business confidence to generate an additional Aboriginal Electrical Apprenticeship.
